College can be daunting when you’re pushed out the doors of high school and into a whole new environment where now, YOU are the one choosing your career path and how to go about studying up for it. You’re expected to take back the lead in your life and decide — right at that moment — what you’re going to dedicate the rest of your life to.
Thankfully, for the indecisive, there are two years of general education prerequisites that allow you time to decide. While in those two years, make the most out of the resources your college provides; it’s the whole point of paying for college, after all. Colleges are meant to provide guidance and information to lead you towards your future career. They are meant to supply you the knowledge and experience that you’ll need in the workforce. So take advantage of all the resources that you’ve got access to during college.
One thing that I’ve had to learn is to ask for help if you don’t know something. It may seem obvious, but I was raised with the mindset that I’m supposed to learn everything on my own. It took a while for me to eventually open up and reach out for help when I didn’t know about something. To my surprise, I’ve found that many people are more than ready to either offer their insights and help, or point you towards the right direction. It doesn’t hurt to ask for help every once in a while, so long as we learn along the way.
Growing up, I’ve come to realize that not all adults have it all together. It comes as a shock sometimes when we discover that many, if not all, adults are just winging it — just like us. Some people might seem scary, and yes, the world may have some bad apples, but there are many others who want to help. So reach out to us, take your chances, and have faith that we’re all in this together.
